Duality
du·al·i·ty | \ dü-ˈa-lə-tē
The quality or state of having two different or opposite parts or elements.
Project background
Duality is a motion graphics project for a live show. The idea was to use a mix of traditional paint methods and blend these into a 3D environment to create visuals that could be projected onto various surfaces.
The project aims at blurring the boundary between traditional and digital media. Reflecting the beautiful mix of traditional musical instrument and the digital layering of sound, the visuals generated transcend the expectations of geometric and computer generated forms that are typically used for such events. This was purposefully crafted after a prolonged experimental process of mixing traditional and digital art.
Below are still images and outcomes from this experiment.
Theme & Experimentation
There are often talks of blurring the boundaries and hybridisation between art and design, art and craft, traditional and digital. One of the reasons for such discussions and explorations of ideas between different mediums is to fulfil new roles these fields face. The reasons motivating each of the topics mentioned can vary depending on the requirements of each field. However, at the core of these changes, one common feature is Duality- the quality or state of having two different or opposite parts or elements.
This project explores these blurred boundaries between firstly art and design, and secondly traditional and digital music production. The outcome was to reconcile visual and auditory senses of the audience to enhance their experiences.
