Visual Exploration #6
In this continuation of my African Visual Exploration series, I push deeper into a vibrant, kaleidoscopic style while maintaining a bold graphic language. This series is an homage to African identity, weaving together elements of heritage, culture, and modernity through an intricate fusion of color, symmetry, and dynamic composition.
This instalment of the series is an experiment in visual mirroring, reflection, and repetition, evoking the endless possibilities found in traditional African textiles and beadwork. The bold colours—deep blues, fiery oranges, intense reds—are drawn from the continent’s natural landscapes and cultural expressions, while the graphic elements and sharp layouts nod to contemporary digital aesthetics.
Process & Execution
The creation of these pieces involved an intuitive yet structured process. I started with a central visual—a portrait, a figure, or an abstract form—then expanded outward, building layers of shapes, colours, and patterns. The use of mirroring and rotational symmetry adds a sense of movement, as if each piece is breathing and pulsating with energy.
I also incorporated photography, blending black-and-white imagery of strong, expressive figures with digital elements. The contrast between the monochrome portraits and the vivid colors creates a visual tension that speaks to the balance between tradition and modernity. Each artwork is a dialogue between past and future, between stillness and motion.
